OUR STORY

Ryan's deployment to Afghanistan and the inability to get pregnant sent us searching for a healthy lifestyle change. We quickly discovered ridding our lives of chemicals and nourishing our bodies to be the answer.

​We started gardening and learning everything we could about the best possible growing practices. After a few years of successful harvests in our apartments and two kids later, we landed in Canterbury, CT.

Our intention of raising animals did not start with feeding people outside of our home. It was only after processing our first home-raised Mulefoot hogs did we realize that more people needed to try not just real food, but real GOOD food.

​Turkeys, chickens, and goats turned into sheep, hogs, and cattle....

Two children on four acres turned into four children on 87! We cannot wait to see where we are in the next five years... I hope you will join us on this journey.

Dave Tripp opened Land Warrior CrossFit in November of 2012, dedicated to honor his brother, MSG Brian Tripp. Brian was tragically one of the 22 US Veterans who commit suicide every day. PIG OUT ON CONNECTICUT’S BEST BBQ

Pig Rig BBQ owner Daniel Lanigan – an Army scout veteran – started his career cooking and selling hot dogs out of his restored food truck, The Dastardly Dog, in 2006. Having those skills and a passion for authentic, pit-smoked barbecue, the next logical step for Daniel was to start a BBQ food truck — which is exactly what he did. The Pig Rig BBQ food truck was born in 2013, followed by the restaurant’s opening at 950 Yale Avenue, Wallingford, CT the next year.

Overlooking the west branch of the Farmington River, this New England landmark is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. If the walls could talk they might tell tales of the early days when the Inn was known as Ive’s Tavern, a welcome sight on the old Albany to Hartford Post Road.  They might mention the many restorations and expansions through the years, and certainly, they would speak about the growth of furniture making in Riverton, where the famous Hitchcock chairs were produced for over a century.  A favorite story would tell of Harper Lee’s many visits because she so enjoyed the area as a place to write. There were several rival stage companies in operation between New Hartford and Riverton. Each stage driver stopped at his favorite inn, where he received special favors in return for bringing his passenger to that tavern.

My Story

After coming back from a deployment, I found that gardening was a source of therapy.  I’ve always been fond of spicy food, so I worked to grow my own hot peppers. Each year the peppers got hotter and hotter.

After pulling 8 lbs of Ghost Peppers out of my garden, I had to figure out what to use them for. After some experimentation, Black Hole Sun chocolate bar emerged.  From there, the flavors and ideas just kept coming, until one day Willy Pete’s Chocolate Company was created.
