CT DVA — Benefits Counseling
The Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs (CT DVA) Office of Advocacy and Assistance (OOAA) provides free, professional benefits counseling to veterans and their families. Service Officers help navigate and file for federal VA disability, pension, healthcare, education, and burial benefits, along with state-specific benefits. Contact the main office at 860-616-3600
Veterans Service Organizations — DAV, VFW, American Legion
Accredited claims representatives from DAV, VFW, and American Legion assist veterans with VA benefit claims at no cost. Locate your nearest chapter through each organization's national website.

Connecticut Veterans Legal Center’s mission is to empower, support, and improve the lives of Connecticut Veterans by providing free legal assistance to help them overcome legal barriers to housing, healthcare, income, and recovery.
National Veterans Legal Services Program
Provides free legal representation for veterans pursuing VA benefits appeals and military discharge upgrades. Submit a case inquiry at nvlsp.org to see if your case qualifies for assistance.
VA Pension & Survivors Benefits
Monthly financial support for wartime veterans with limited income and surviving spouses. Eligibility and application guidance are available at va.gov/pension or through your state benefits counselor.

Veterans and Military Affairs Section
The Veterans and Military Affairs Section (VAMA) is to be available to (1) coordinate CBA legal assistance to military personnel residing in the state of Connecticut, CBA legal assistance to Connecticut residents serving as military personnel stationed outside the state, and CBA legal assistance to the military legal assistance staffs which serve them; and (2) assist in resolving legal problems facing any of (a) Connecticut's veterans, and (b) active-duty, reserve, national guard, and state statute-established militia, military personnel.

Provides military records on request to Veterans and their next of kin, including DD 214 separation documents, official military personnel file (OMPF), replacement medals, and medical and health records. The National Archives and Records Administration cannot make changes or corrections to military records or to your discharge status other than to make minor administrative corrections to fix some typographical errors.

The Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress collects, preserves and makes accessible the firsthand recollections of U.S. military veterans who served from World War I through more recent conflicts and peacekeeping missions, so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand what they saw, did and felt during their service.
